René Ferdinand Delimbeuf (1909-1994)

René Ferdinand Delimbeuf, "Dessinateur en Tissu", was born in Louvier, Arrondissement d’Evreux (Eure), France, in January 23rd, 1909 and died in Portugal, in March 28th, 1994 at the age of 85. Son of Gabriel Auguste Delimbeuf and Rachel Leontine Izambert, he was married to Blanche Blache Delimbeuf. He came to Portugal in 1936, always keeping his French nationality.

After primary school, he joined the École Manufacturière d’Elbeuf (France), where he got a degree certificate in “Textile industry technician” and then, took a course at the École Nationale Superieure des Arts et Industries Textiles de Roubaix (France), where he got a diploma on Higher Studies, being classified as second in his course and he also got a silver medal.

He  was a teacher of the Cours Professionnel Obligatoire du Syndicat Patronale du Textile d’Elbeuf et Louvier (France), and he worked for 10 years at the Textile Company Charles Miquel & Cª, in Louviers.

In Portugal, in 1948, at the age of 39, he searched for a partner who would invest in the setting up of a factory in Brazil. He made a résumé where he claimed to have 10 years of experience in France in the best cheviot items for men (English type) and 12 years of practice in the most important factory of Portugal, which was specialised in the latest trend items for ladies, such as crepe, suits, coats and jacquards, both in woollen and carded yarn, knowing deeply the Portuguese business(...)".

His work in Portugal was a mark in the following companies:

  • Manoel Dinis Júnior, Ldª – Wool Factory of Sacavém ;
  • M. Carp Factory, specialised in merinos;
  •  Textile industry company of Arrentela (1964-67), where he worked on knitted yarns and cloths;
  • Industrial society Perez Ferreira & Cª Ldª, located in 95 Rodrigues Faria Street, Alcântara, Lisbon, specialised in neckerchieves, he was a minoriy partner;
  • Textile industry Factory of Lordelo, SARL, located in 351, Serralves Streer, Oporto, where he worked in blankets and cloths;
  • Industry of Lusitianian Velvet Fabrics, Lda., with a seat in Venda Nova, Amadora and a branch in the Joanes Factory, in Vila Nova de Famalicão. After leaving the Lordelo Factory, he was some time without working. He had contracts for 5 years.
